Puerto Peñasco (“Rocky Point”)

Puerto Peñasco (AKA “Rocky Point”) is located in northwest Mexico, in the Mexican state of Sonora. It sits on the eastern coast of the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California).

This small seaside destination is roughly 60 miles (100km) south of the US border with Arizona, making it an easy and favorite destination for places like Tucson or Phoenix. Puerto Peñasco is where the desert meets the ocean. Surrounding the town are miles of sand, dormant volcanic mountains and the Sonoran Desert. Despite being relatively close to such a large city as Phoenix, Puerto Peñasco feels like you’ve traveled to a far-away destination.
